PONGO
ARTIST / SINGER / SONGWRITER
Angolan-Portuguese singer Pongo is a refreshing talent.
An Afro-Fusion artist on a journey to bring connection through her music.
"I want them to feel free," is the simple response Pongo gives when asked how she hopes her music will be received. Her upcoming EP, PONGO BADDIE, marks the latest chapter in the story of the remarkable Afro-Fusion artist on a journey to bring connection through her music.
At the end of the ‘Sakidila’ album cycle, Pongo left her deal at Universal in search of new creative relationships. With her live show in constant demand, she spent much of 2023 traveling the world, performing to huge festival crowds, and considering her next move and direction.
With performances for COLORS Studio and Boiler Room blowing up, fans were eager to know what would come next. 2024 was a journey of writing and experimentation for Pongo, who found a new creative home in Hive Music and Position Music. While writing in Lisbon and LA, her first new material began to take shape.
The result is PONGO BADDIE - a four-track snapshot into the life and mind of the artist. From the joyous and triumphant ‘Celebrate’, Pongo moves through the gears to the darkly cinematic ‘Katana’ and the deeply personal ‘Mandela’. The record also features a collaboration with US/Ghanaian rapper Blackway on ‘Alambamento’ which draws in Amapiano influences. The EP is an incredible journey through Pongo’s singular style.
It’s a record that transcends cultural lines and language, written to make you move. Of it, Pongo says, ”Even if we don’t speak the same language, our bodies can communicate, as human beings we all share the same experiences, that is, from sadness, nostalgia, happiness and freedom.”
